Hey, Happy Birthday to us! It was 30 years ago today - Sept. 14, 1990 - that First Stage presented its first performance - "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown!"
It all started after auditions early in 1990 for shows like “Annie” brought in hundreds of kids! It was obvious that there was a need for an outlet for these young thespians.
So the Musical Arts Guild (MAG) was approached by George Snider and Jennifer Salcines. They asked the group to sponsor the children’s theatre, and that’s how the group know as the Musical Arts Guild – Children’s Theatre (MAG-CT) began.
Ten years later the children's theatre spun off into a separate company and officially became the First Stage Theatre Company (the name suggested by board member Clint McElroy).
In the years since, First Stage has presented almost 100 shows, giving thousands of area kids the chance to take the stage and show off their talents!
Special thanks to all those young performers, their parents and guardians, our countless volunteers, and all those who have served on the board of First Stage, guiding it through the years! And thanks to all those who came out, bought a ticket and supported the cause!
In these times of pandemic, First Stage has gone into "pause" mode until it's safe to get cast and crew together again - but we have many more great shows on the horizon!
If you'd like to help First Stage weather this COVID-19 storm, your donations are welcome and much appreciated - we are a 501(c)3 non-profit, and you can send donations to P.O. Box 4, Huntington, WV 25706-0004.
